5 Best Honeymoon Locations in North Carolina

January 26, 2022

One of the best parts of wedding planning is actually honeymoon planning! If you aren’t down for traveling or just want to keep it local, there are plenty of amazing honeymoon locations right here in North Carolina. The options are endless, so I’ll stick to five for now, ranging from oceanfront beach homes to extravagant mountain resorts (plus two honorable mentions as well).

Best Honeymoon Locations in North Carolina

The Duke Mansion exudes Charlotte charm. The historic home is tucked away in Myers Park neighborhood, a quieter part of the city, but it’s still close and convenient to everything you might need. Your stay includes a hot breakfast, and you can add on couple’s in-room massages, private meals, picnics in the garden, and spa services. You’ll also be right next door to some of the best restaurants and local cuisine as well as Freedom Park if you want to get out for an evening walk or bike ride. I love their screened in porches for coffee or breakfast, and I recommend the Duke mansion for couples who want a romantic, luxurious, and laid-back honeymoon experience.

For a luxury experience in the Blue Ridge Mountains, try The Omni Grove Park Inn (part of Omni Resorts). The resort boasts an incredible subterranean spa, indoor pool, championship golf course, locally-sourced restaurants, and of course, plush 5-star rooms. Learn more about everything the resort has to offer in their Resort Guide. I especially love that it’s distinctly Asheville. Although it is luxurious like most Omni Resorts, they’ve maintained a warm, relaxed mountain-cabin feel in their design.

Outer Banks

Head to the (now famous thanks to Netflix) Outer Banks for your oceanfront getaway. My recommendation here is to actually book an Airbnb, VRBO, or other vacation rental. You can find endless beach rentals for a reasonable price (some only accessible by 4X4 vehicle or ATV), and then spend up for some incredible experiences, such as local lighthouse tours, surf lessons, hang gliding tours, or Corolla Outback Adventures, where you’ll probably get glimpses of the wild Corolla mustangs. If you’re adventurous, you can find equal amounts of thrills and romance in the Outer Banks. Find more adventures for your Outer Banks honeymoon here.

Treehouse Vineyards is an incredible and exclusive experience. If you book well in advance, the vineyard has two treehouses designed just for honeymoon and romantic getaways. They’re fully furnished, more luxurious than you can imagine for a treehouse. One treehouse overlooks the pond and vineyards while the others is a hideaway in the woods overlooking a bubbling creek. The venue has live music, tours, and of course amazing wine tasting experiences—all right here in charming Monroe, North Carolina! And you’ll love reading about their sweet history, too—learn more about the vineyards here.

If you love the mountains, be sure to check out Old Edwards Inn & Spa. This dreamy inn and spa by Relais & Chateaux features understated luxury. The guestrooms, suites, cottages, and vacation homes are spacious and luxurious, yet they feel welcoming and warm—a home away from home. This mountain resort has struck a perfect balance. You’ll find premium amenities, such as a world-class spa, Tom Jackson-design golf course, and fitness classes, yet they also feature farm-fresh dishes and mountain hiking experiences. This resort is absolutely breathtaking with the very best accommodations and service.
