Every professional photographer has a signature style, and most couples have an ideal wedding vision in mind. How do you mesh them together for beautiful, perfectly curated wedding photos you fall in love with over and over again? First, you do a little research and find a professional wedding photographer whose work speaks to you. (Here’s a post on how to find the right wedding vendors for you.) Then, you collaborate! I love helping couples flesh out their wedding day dreams—it just requires a bit of planning and communication. Here are a few tips to help us get on the same page.
5 Tips on Collaborating with Wedding Vendors
Share a Mood Board
We do much more than show up and shoot. I truly care about your preferences, wedding style, and unique story. I aim to capture all of it in your wedding photos to provide you with images that authentically reflect you. If possible, share your wedding aesthetic via mood board. Pin colors, textures, photo styles, and poses you especially love and want to recreate.
Make a Shot List
While I have honed my photography style, each wedding I photograph is a bit different, depending on the couple and how the day unfolds. Some couples prefer a more photojournalistic take with tons of in-the-moment candids—priceless facial expressions and all. Others love traditional wedding portraits they can display and share. Do you love telling stories through photo albums? Or are you planning on making wall art from you wedding portraits? Knowing your preferences and plans for photos is important so I can ensure you have what you need.
There’s no need to make a huge shot list of every moment from your wedding day. Of course I’ll get the detail shots, getting ready photos, first look, first kiss—all the firsts!—your newlywed sendoff, and everything in between! But please let me know if you have any personal requests or unique photos that you especially want that I need to know in advance.
Share Wedding Photos You Love…And Some You Don’t
Just as important—if not more—than sharing what you love, please share what you don’t! If you just can’t stand certain images or poses, give me a heads up. Let me know during a call or text, or just send a few visual examples of your preferences so I can prioritize or avoid certain shots.
Spend Some Time on the Questionnaire
Cozy up with a blanket together and document some of your story for me. Where did it all begin? What’s the proposal story? What are your wedding plans? It might take a few minutes, but it’s fun, and it’s worth it! Plus, you can recycle content and use your responses to build your wedding website! I take time and care in receiving your information, and I like to infuse pieces of your story and personality into your wedding photos. The details matter when capturing photos you’ll treasure forever. Drop a few lines on my short contact form to get started!
Book an Engagement Session & Bridal Portraits
Finally, one of the best ways to get to know each other and facilitate the planning process is by working together! Book your engagement and bridal portraits with your wedding photographer so you have seamless photos from beginning to end. During your sessions, it’s easy to talk through plans and preferences together. Plus, it’ll help you feel more at ease in front of the camera.
